Scott Centrella is a Partner in the firm, the Chair of its Employment Law Department and a Co-Chair of its Litigation Department. In addition to his skills as a trial lawyer, one of his strengths lies in his creativity and determined approach to solving the often intractable problems clients face.

Mr. Centrella focuses his practice in the area of employment law and litigation where he counsels both businesses and individuals in the myriad issues which arise in law of the workplace. Mr. Centrella provides guidance and representation in matters including hiring, termination, the negotiation of employment contracts and severance agreements, reductions-in-force, the preparation of employee manuals, non-compete, non-solicitation and confidentiality agreements, and counsel to employers as to human resources best practices. He also litigates the complete panoply of employment claims before state and federal administrative agencies and all courts. Mr. Centrella is frequently retained by insurance carriers through their employment practices liability insurance programs to defend employers in employment litigation. He is a frequent lecturer on employment law issues and provides state-mandated sexual harassment training to businesses.

Mr. Centrella also litigates a broad array of business disputes and complex commercial cases, plaintiff's personal injury claims, family law matters, and the defense of professional liability claims. He is a past member of the Executive Committee of the Employment Law Section of the Connecticut Bar Association and its Federal Practice Section. He is a member of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association, the American Inns of Court and the Society for Human Resource Management. Mr. Centrella also volunteers his time as a Special Master assisting in the mediation and settlement of cases for the Connecticut Superior Court. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Legal Netlink Alliance, an international consortium of high quality, mid-sized law firms of which DMOC is a member.

Mr. Centrella is a member of the Board of Selectmen in his hometown of Easton, the President of the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford, and a past member of the Board of Trustees Advisory Council at Fairfield University.

Representative Engagements:

- Mr. Centrella successfully defended a large retailing concern against claims of sexual harassment brought by the company's Controller before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ("EEOC"). Mr. Centrella was able to convince the EEOC that the case was one of a consensual sexual relationship between the two employees at issue and that there was no sexual harassment. The case was dismissed.

- Mr. Centrella successfully defended an insurance broker being sued by her former employer, a large international insurance brokerage, for alleged violation of non-competition and non-solicitation covenants. Mr. Centrella successfully defended the client at an evidentiary hearing in which injunctive relief was denied by the Court and ultimately obtained judgment for the defendant after a trial to the Court.

- Mr. Centrella recently obtained a dismissal by the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities of a disability discrimination claim brought against a national telecommunications concern by one of its store managers.

- Mr. Centrella represented a software vendor in a substantial fee dispute with the State of Connecticut brought before the Connecticut Claims Commissioner. By creatively bifurcating certain issues, he was able to successfully negotiate a meaningful settlement of the claims.
