DMOC Attorneys Successfully Defend Dual Discrimination Claims

June 19, 2013

DMOC partner, Scott Centrella, and associate, Tim Moylan, successfully defended a family owned business in Connecticut against lawsuits by two former employees alleging employment discrimination based on religion. Both individuals, who claimed they had been victims of harassment and the termination of their jobs due to their religion, brought suit in State Superior Court, and the cases were consolidated for trial. Mr. Centrella and Mr. Moylan obtained summary judgment in one of the cases a few weeks before trial, arguing in a lengthy and complex motion that there were no genuine issues of material fact and that the employer was accordingly entitled to judgment as a matter of law. The remaining case was then settled for nominal value during jury selection. This represented a substantial victory for the employer who maintained throughout that it had not violated the law but rather had simply disciplined employees for poor job performance.
