Matthew C. Wagner, partner and Chair of DMOC’s Intellectual Property Department, has been selected to Chair the Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Sub-Committee for the Copyright Law Committee of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA)

Matthew C. Wagner, partner and Chair of DMOC’s Intellectual Property Department, has been selected to Chair the Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Sub-Committee for the Copyright Law Committee of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA).  Matt is very excited to assist the Committee in monitoring government action and rulemaking proceedings for involvement by the Committee on behalf of AIPLA.  Presently, Matt is spearheading efforts of the Sub-Committee to develop comments to the Notice of Inquiry announced the U.S. Copyright Office concerning proposed rules and legislation to deal with orphan works. 

Matt is also an active member of AIPLA’s Trademark Law Committee.  Recently, he participated as a member of the Special Committee for Legislative Affairs, and co-authored the Special Committee’s Resolutions Supporting Proposed Legislation To Amend Lanham Act Remedies Sections Relating To Monetary Awards For Actual Damages And Accountings Of Infringer’s Unjust Enrichment Profits, and supporting memoranda.  The Resolutions proposed by the Special Committee were adopted as modified by the Board of Directors of AIPLA for proposal to Congress.

Formed in 1897, AIPLA is a national bar association constituted primarily of lawyers in private and corporate practice, in government service, and in the academic community, with approximately 16,000 members. AIPLA represents a wide and diverse spectrum of individuals, companies and institutions involved directly or indirectly in the practice of patent, trademark, copyright, and unfair competition law, as well as other fields of law affecting intellectual property.  Members represent both owners and users of intellectual property.  For more information about AIPLA, please see http://www.aipla.org
